Graham's solo-piano blues improv 'It's Sloppy But' as a concert string quartet (2026-10-17). His bars first, cleaned and bowed: the opening noodle over G, the engine (two bars of C, two of E minor), the high tune with the repeated-G bell and the left-hand figure, the blue riffs. Then grown from his motifs: the tune sung slowly and in canon so the two lines rub in seconds while the bell is held with a swell on every bar (the breath held); the engine in 7/8 — his bar of straight eighths with the last one taken away, sloppy on purpose — with his figure, his riffs in imitation and his tune compressed, the Ab-G slide now in the bass, until the missing eighth comes back; a return that lands harder, the tune in both violins one beat apart; his floating bars with the cello underneath them for the first time; his coda, and the bell once more.
